Liljestrand House Honolulu
In 2012 Rachel and I took a trip to Kauai and Oahu. We were about to begin our last semester at CCA, so it was a sort of "calm before the storm" trip. In Kauai we went whale watching and hiked the Na Pali Coast, both were incredible experiences that seemed impossible to top.
We spent the second half of our trip in Oahu, mostly staying in Honolulu. There we discovered the work of Vladimir Ossipoff, a locally renowned architect who's work is not as well known outside of the islands. We toured his Liljestrand House, a stunning midcentury home perched on a hillside overlooking Honolulu. The house was completed in 1952 and was later featured in House Beautiful. There are obvious Wright influences throughout the home, but it is distinctly Hawaiian and feels appropriately tailored to its surroundings. The tour was given by Bob Liljestrand, the son of the original owners who had grown up in the home.
We shot a roll of film at the house. Here are some of those pictures.
